Ampang Jaya is a major town to the east of Kuala Lumpur in the state of Selangor.

Ampang Jaya was carved out of the municipalities of Selayang and Kajang in 1995. The Selayang portion is known as Ulu Klang. The Kajang portion is known as Ampang Town.

Ampang Jaya was once a tin-mining town.

Ampang Town covers the present-day townships and housing estates Ampang Old Town, Ampang New Town, Taman Dagang, Taman Ahmad Razali, Taman Cempaka, Taman Cahaya, Taman Kosas, Taman Bukit Indah, Taman Ampang Jaya, Lembah Jaya, Ampang Point and Pandan.

Ampang Town is famous for its Yong Tau Foo, a Hakka Chinese soup.

Ampang Town has small shopping complexes that include Ampang Point, Mid Point (in Pandan Indah), Pandan Capital (in Pandan Indah), Galaxy Mall (in Ampang New Town), Spectrum Mall (in Ampang New Town) and Tesco (in Pandan Jaya).

Ampang Jaya has 3 hospitals namely Ampang Puteri Hospital (Ampang Point), Pantai Hospital (Pandan Indah) and Ampang Hospital (Pandan Mewah).

The National Zoo is in Ulu Klang. There is also the Ampang Recreational Park or Taman Rimba Ampang in Lembah Jaya.

The National Film Corporation is also located in Ulu Klang next to the zoo.

Ulu Klang includes International Hill (Bukit Antarabangsa) which is a hilly region that houses many bungalows and some high-rise apartments.

Ampang Jaya is administered by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).

Subang Jaya is a residential town in the Klang Valley in Selangor, Malaysia. It is situated in the district of Petaling.

Subang Jaya refers to the original township developed by Sime UEP and the area governed by the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ).

The MPSJ governs areas of the Petaling district not under Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam. The Subang Jaya municipality covers the original township as well as neighbouring Bandar Sunway, Puchong and Serdang.

The township has numerous schools, colleges, hospitals, places of worship and vibrant commercial areas.

Subang Jaya's town centre was developed by Sime UEP, the property development arm of the Malaysian conglomerate Sime Darby. The site was formerly an oil palm plantation called Seafield Estate. Construction work began in 1974 and was concluded in 1988.

In 1997, Subang Jaya was granted the status of a municipality. Local authority was transferred from the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) to the MPSJ.

Subang Jaya is well-known for its shopping centres. They include Subang Parade, hypermarkets Carrefour, Giant and Mydin, The Summit, Digitalmall (all in the town centre), Sunway Pyramid (in Bandar Sunway), IOI Mall and Tesco (in Puchong) and South City Mall and The Mines Shopping Fair (in Serdang).

Subang Jaya is also a higher education hub, with colleges centred in the commercial district of SS15. They include SEGI College, Taylor's University College, Inti College and Metropolitan College. There is also Sunway University College and The One Academy in Bandar Sunway.

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is a major government university located in Serdang. It was formerly known as the Agriculture University of Malaysia.

Three private hospitals namely Sunway Medical Centre (in Bandar Sunway), Subang Jaya Medical Centre (in the town centre) and Columbia Asia Hospital (in Puchong) are located in Subang Jaya. There is also the Serdang Hospital (in Serdang), a government hospital.

The suburb of Bandar Sunway which was developed by the Sunway Group in 1986 houses the popular Sunway Lagoon Theme Park which is connected to the Sunway Pyramid shopping centre and the Sunway Resort Hotel.

The suburb of Puchong used to house rubber estates and tin mines. Today it is a fast-growing commercial and residential area with many new townships. It also houses the country's biggest badminton stadium, the MBA stadium.

Serdang or Seri Kembangan was established as a New Village in 1952 by the British. It is well-known for its shoe factories and the Mines Resort City, a theme park which includes several hotels most notably the luxurious Palace Of The Golden Horses and the Mines Shopping Fair shopping centre.

The Mines Resort City was once the Hong Fatt Tin Mine which was the world's largest open-cast tin mine. It was owned by Chan Wing, the businessman who later built the National Palace (Istana Negara).

Another Tragic Loss - Yanie Julkarim, Sabahan Starlet

Lost a dear friend in Yanie Julkarim yesterday.

The Bajau beauty finished third in TV3 talent search Mentor Season 1 in 2005 as the protege of R&B queen Ning Baizura (my fellow Ipoh native).

Yanie was the cousin of Mentor 1 champion Norafizah (Pija) Yasin who later took part in 8TV reality talent show One In A Million Season 3 (OIAM3).

Both girls are related to the late, great Father of Sabah Independence Tun Datu Mustapha Datu Harun, prince of Sulu, descendant of the legendary freedom fighter Datu Mat Salleh.

Singer and actress Siti Surianie Julkarim, better known as Yanie, succumbed to lung cancer at Keningau Hospital in Sabah yesterday.

The 25-year-old from Kota Kinabalu rose to fame in 2005 after finishing third in TV3 talent search Mentor Season 1. She was the protege of Ning Baizura.

Ning described Yanie as positive, disciplined and hardworking. “We’ve remained close since Mentor 1 ended and last met in July,” she said.

Yanie’s cousins, Mentor 1 champion Norafizah ‘Pija’ Yasin and singer Naufara Yasin were devastated.

Pija said: “Yanie was a soul mate to both of us.”

Naufara said: “She believed in being versatile.”

Akademi Fantasia 2 singer and choreographer Adam Mat Saman (grandson of Sabah Governor Tun Ahmadshah Abdullah) described Yanie as a hardworking and talented star. “I’ll miss her caring ways and radiant smile,” he said.

Malaysian Idol 1 finalist Nikki Palikat who performed the song Drama with Yanie and Ning said: “Despite her pain, Yanie always appeared cheerful and caring.”

Actor and producer Farish Aziz (Adam's cousin) described Yanie as a starlet ‘gone too soon’.

Akademi Fantasia singers and actresses Norashikin Rahman (of Labuan) and Nora Daud (of Sandakan, niece of rock group Atomic Power's founder Zakaria Buang) described Yanie as a ‘gem of a woman’ who was always humble and compassionate.

Yanie is survived by her husband Irfin Manan (of Tambunan, like Palikat), 30 and a year-old daughter Iris Sofea.

Corey Haim Dies Of Drug Overdose

It's a tragedy that we've lost brilliant 1980s actor Corey Haim to a drug overdose.

Corey Ian Haim (December 23, 1971 – March 10, 2010) was a Canadian actor, known for a 1980s Hollywood career as a teen idol.

He starred in a number of films such as Lucas, The Lost Boys, License To Drive and Dream A Little Dream. Most notably, he collaborated numerous times with Corey Feldman, the pair being dubbed "The Two Coreys".

Haim was born in Toronto and was of Israeli ancestry.

Haim made his first cinematic appearance in the 1984 feature film, Firstborn, which starred Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert Downey Jr.

In 1985, Haim appeared in Secret Admirer and Murphy's Romance and starred in Stephen King's Silver Bullet.

Haim won his first Young Artist Award for the television movie A Time To Live.

Haim's major break was Lucas in 1986, alongside Kerri Green, Charlie Sheen and Winona Ryder.

In 1987, Haim had a role in Joel Schumacher's vampire film The Lost Boys, alongside Jason Patric and Kiefer Sutherland.

Haim won his second Young Artist Award, tying Feldman for License To Drive in 1988.

Haim became addicted to drugs during this time and went in and out of rehab.

In 2006 he and Feldman starred in the TV series The Two Coreys.

In 2008 he starred in Shark City with Vivica Fox.

Eldrick Tont Woods (born December 30, 1975), better known as Tiger Woods is an American professional golfer whose achievements to date rank him among the most successful golfers. Currently the World No. 1, he was the highest-paid professional athlete in 2008, having earned an estimated US$110 million from winnings and endorsements.

Woods has won 14 major golf championships, the second highest of any male player and 71 PGA Tour events, the third highest of any male player. He has more major wins and PGA Tour wins than any other active golfer. He is the youngest player to achieve the career Grand Slam and the youngest and fastest to win 50 tournaments on tour. Additionally, Woods is the second golfer, after Jack Nicklaus, to have achieved a career grand slam three times. Woods has won 16 World Golf Championships and has won at least one of those events each of the 11 years they have been in existence.

Woods has held the number one position in the world rankings for the most consecutive weeks and for the greatest number of weeks. He has been awarded PGA Player Of The Year a record 10 times.

On December 11, 2009, Woods announced he would take an indefinite leave from professional golf to focus on his marriage after he admitted infidelity. His multiple infidelities were revealed by over a dozen mistresses, through many worldwide media sources.

Woods was born in Cypress, California, to Earl (1932–2006) and Kultida (Tida) Woods (born 1944). He is the only child of their marriage but has two half-brothers, Earl Jr (born 1955) and Kevin (born 1957) and one half-sister, Royce (born 1958) from the 18-year marriage of Earl Woods and his first wife Barbara Gray. Earl, a retired United States Army lieutenant colonel and Vietnam War veteran was of mixed African American, Chinese and Native American ancestry. Kultida Punsawad, originally from Thailand, is of mixed Thai, Chinese and Dutch ancestry.

At birth, Woods was given 'Eldrick' and 'Tont' as first and middle names. Tont is a traditional Thai name. He got his nickname from a Vietnamese American soldier friend of his father, Vuong Dang Phong, to whom his father had also given the Tiger nickname. He became generally known by that name and by the time he had achieved national prominence in junior and amateur golf, he was simply known as 'Tiger' Woods.

Woods grew up in Orange County, California. He was a prodigy, introduced to golf before the age of two, by his athletic father Earl, who was a good standard amateur golfer and a college baseball player at Kansas State University. In 1978, Tiger putted against comedian Bob Hope in a television appearance on The Mike Douglas Show. At age three, he shot a 48 over nine holes at the Navy Golf Club in Cypress, California and at age five, he appeared in Golf Digest and on ABC's That's Incredible. In 1984 at the age of eight, he won the 9–10 boys' event, the youngest age group available at the Junior World Golf Championships. He went on to win the Junior World Championships six times, including four consecutive wins from 1988 to 1991.

While attending Western High School in Anaheim at the age of 15, Woods became the youngest ever US Junior Amateur Champion, was voted Southern California Amateur Player Of The Year for the second consecutive year and Golf Digest Junior Amateur Player Of The Year 1991. He was a member of the American team at the 1994 Eisenhower Trophy World Amateur Golf Team Championships (winning) and the 1995 Walker Cup (losing).

Woods obtained a golf scholarship and enrolled at Stanford in 1994. He won his first collegiate event, the 40th Annual William H. Tucker Invitational in September. He declared a major in economics. In 1995, he defended his US Amateur title and was voted Stanford's Freshman Of The Year (an award that encompasses all sports). At age 20 in 1996, he became the first golfer to win three consecutive US Amateur titles, and won the NCAA individual golf championship.

Tiger Woods became a professional golfer in August 1996 and signed endorsement deals worth US$40 million from Nike and US$20 million from Titleist. He played his first round of professional golf at the Greater Milwaukee Open, tying for 60th place, but went on to win two events in the next three months to qualify for the Tour Championship. Woods has established several charitable and youth projects. The Tiger Woods Foundation was established in 1996 by Woods and his father Earl. It focuses on projects for children. On October 5, 2004, Woods wed Elin Nordegren, a former Swedish model and daughter of former minister of migration Barbro Holmberg and radio journalist Thomas Nordegren. They were introduced during The Open Championship in 2001 by Swedish golfer Jesper Parnevik, who had employed her as an au pair. Their first child Sam Alexis was born on June 18, 2007. Their second child Charles Axel came on February 8, 2009.

On November 25, 2009, supermarket tabloid The National Enquirer published a story claiming that Woods had an extramarital affair with nightclub manager Rachel Uchitel, a claim she denied. The story began to attract media attention when Woods had a car accident a day later. He was leaving his home around 2.30am in his SUV when he collided with a tree. Woods refused to speak to the police and the accident fanned intense speculation for two days until he released a statement on his website. He took blame for the crash but said it was a private matter. He also praised his wife Elin for getting him out of the car.

In the next few days, over a dozen women claimed in various media outlets that Woods had affairs with them. Woods subsequently apologised for his misconduct and requested privacy.

As a result of his infidelity, Woods lost several corporate endorsements most notably Gillette and Nielsen.

Tiger Woods donated US$3,000,000 to the 2010 Haitian earthquake victims.

He is both Christian and Buddhist, and endorses legendary boxer Muhammad Ali’s famous statement in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks that all faiths are equally good and lead to the same destination.

Alexander Wang Leehom (born May 17, 1976) is a American Chinese singer-songwriter, producer and actor.

Formally trained at the Eastman and Berklee Colleges Of Music in the United States, he fuses traditional Chinese elements (such as Chinese opera and the music of China’s Indochinese/Indonesian aborigines) with Western music.

Wang has been active since 1995 and has 25 albums to his credit.

He won Taiwan’s Golden Melody Awards four times.

Wang is also an actor who starred in Ang Lee’s Lust, Caution and Jackie Chan’s Little Big Soldier.

Wang was a torch-bearer in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. He also sang at the Olympics’ closing ceremony.

He has been named as one of the 100 most inspiring Asian Americans by the magazine Goldsea Asian American Daily.

Born in Rochester, New York, Wang is the second of three sons. His parents are from Taiwan. His father is a doctor and his mother is a music teacher.

Influenced by his elder brother, a violinist, he learnt the instrument when he was three.
