About Ampang Jaya

Ampang Jaya is a major town to the east of Kuala Lumpur in the state of Selangor.

Ampang Jaya was carved out of the municipalities of Selayang and Kajang in 1995. The Selayang portion is known as Ulu Klang. The Kajang portion is known as Ampang Town.

Ampang Jaya was once a tin-mining town.

Ampang Town covers the present-day townships and housing estates Ampang Old Town, Ampang New Town, Taman Dagang, Taman Ahmad Razali, Taman Cempaka, Taman Cahaya, Taman Kosas, Taman Bukit Indah, Taman Ampang Jaya, Lembah Jaya, Ampang Point and Pandan.

Ampang Town is famous for its Yong Tau Foo, a Hakka Chinese soup.

Ampang Town has small shopping complexes that include Ampang Point, Mid Point (in Pandan Indah), Pandan Capital (in Pandan Indah), Galaxy Mall (in Ampang New Town), Spectrum Mall (in Ampang New Town) and Tesco (in Pandan Jaya).

Ampang Jaya has 3 hospitals namely Ampang Puteri Hospital (Ampang Point), Pantai Hospital (Pandan Indah) and Ampang Hospital (Pandan Mewah).

The National Zoo is in Ulu Klang. There is also the Ampang Recreational Park or Taman Rimba Ampang in Lembah Jaya.

The National Film Corporation is also located in Ulu Klang next to the zoo.

Ulu Klang includes International Hill (Bukit Antarabangsa) which is a hilly region that houses many bungalows and some high-rise apartments.

Ampang Jaya is administered by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).
